There is a chilling familiarity in how the disgraced Malayalam actor Dileep is making his slow but deliberate return to public life. The script is not new: a carefully staged media blitz, selective memory, appeals to nostalgia, and an ecosystem of enablers willing to overlook—or deliberately erase—the seriousness of the charges he continues to face.

Actor Bhavana, the survivor in a 2017 sexual assault case broke her silence on the incident and its aftermath while speaking to journalist Barkha Dutt at the Global Townhall 2022 event titled ‘We the Women’ programme, hosted by The Mojo Story.

For the first time, the popular South Indian female actor who is a survivor in sexual assault case, in which Malayalam actor Dileep is accused of being the mastermind, has spoken up in public, using one of her official social media pages.

Conveying her anguish over the recent turn of events in the case and saying the fate of the case is in jeopardy, the female actor who was sexually assaulted in February 2017 in Kerala, has written to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

The Network of Women in Media, India (NWMI) together with 25 eminent personalities including authors and scholars said in a joint statement that they are deeply concerned about the rising trend of powerful men seeking gag orders on the media in sexual assault and harassment cases.
