Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appears set to return to power in Delhi after a gap of 27 years, according to multiple exit polls conducted after the Delhi Assembly elections on Wednesday. The predictions come as a major setback for the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which was vying for a third consecutive term.
Even as several exit polls predict third time for the Narendra Modi-led government, veteran Congress leader Sonia Gandhi asserted that Congress party remained hopeful that the Lok Sabha election results would be the opposite of the what the exit polls have showed.
Terming the exit polls 'bogus', the Congress has said they were a 'deliberate attempt' to justify rigging of the elections and part of 'psychological games' being played by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lower the morale of the INDIA alliance workers and supporters.
All ten major exit polls forecast a decisive win for the BJP, with some even projecting a two-thirds majority for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the 543-member House.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday claimed that the ruling BJP will be wiped out from Uttar Pradesh when the results are declared on March 10.
