The Enforcement Directorate has summoned National Conference (NC) president and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah on Thursday for questioning in a money laundering case.
Political leaders in Kashmir Valley including three former chief ministers were placed under detention ahead of a protest by the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration against the Delimitation Commission’s recommendations.
Opposition leaders including Congress president Sonia Gandhi, NCP chief Sharad Pawar and chief ministers of Jharkhand, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu have written to President Ram Nath Kovind urging him "to direct the Government to act against those responsible for foisting false cases" on the renowned tribal rights activist and Elgaar Parishad case accused Father Stan Swamy, who died on Monday.
Leaders of 12 opposition parties Wednesday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking a free mass vaccination campaign against coronavirus, and a suspension of the central vista revamp project to aid the fight against the pandemic, PTI reported.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, released today after over seven months in house arrest, said: "Today I don't have words, the way I feel today, I am free. But my freedom would not be complete unless all the leaders in detention were freed."
