The Congress government's inaction, along with speeches by state ministers that alienated Muslims, escalated the communal violence in Himachal Pradesh last month, according to a fact-finding report by the Association for Protection of Civil Rights.
“It's a matter of great shame, but these local leaders have no one to stop them. Outsiders came and looted goods from 4-5 shops,” the Muslim leaders stated. “Out of fear, at least 16 people have left their work and moved away. And only one person was at fault.”
Amidst the ongoing political unrest in the state, six former MLAs of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly—who were disqualified as Congress members for refusing to obey a party whip—joined the BJP on Saturday.
