Ashoka University Associate Professor and political scientist Ali Khan Mahmudabad has been arrested for his comments about Operation Sindoor based on a complaint by a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s youth wing.
An open letter signed by over 1,200 people—including academics, politicians, civil servants, and many others from all corners—expressed support for political scientist Ali Khan Mahmudabad, demanding that the Haryana Women’s Commission retract its summons to him and apologise for “deliberately and maliciously slandering him.”

The Haryana State Commission for Women has issued a notice to Ali Khan Mahmudabad, Associate Professor and Head of the Political Science Department at Ashoka University, Sonipat, after taking suo motu cognisance of his remarks against warmongering amid the India-Pakistan escalation, which, according to the Commission, “disparaged women officers in the Indian Armed Forces and promoted communal disharmony.”
“Many of the contents shared are anti-war, some are critical of the government, and others are appeals for peace. How can these be labelled as pro-Pakistani and anti-national?” a researcher from Guwahati asked.
