Delhi University professor and noted academic Dr. Hany Babu, who is one of the UAPA prisoners in the Bhima Koregaon-Elgar Parishad case, completed three years of incarceration on Friday, 28 July, 2023.

Jenny Rowena, the wife of jailed Delhi University professor Hany Babu, laments the situation of prisons in India and accuses that, as a society, we failed to have a social ethos that never undermines prisoners' rights.

Life partners of jailed human rights defenders Khalid Saifi, Hany Babu and GN Saibaba who gathered in national capital Delhi on Thursday under the banner of Campaign Against State Repression, demanded the immediate release of all political prisoners incarcerated under the Bhima Koregaon and CAA-NRC cases.

Jenny Rowena, Delhi University professor and wife of the jailed professor and human rights defender Hany Babu said that the new Wired magazine report which says the Pune police planted evidence on computers of Bhima Koregaon accused including Babu, once again exposed the devious conspiracy, involving the police, in incarcerating law-abiding citizens who were doing good work in society, in order to punish them for their social interventions.

Family members and comrades of the accused in Bhima Koregaon-Elgar Parishad case, serving as under-trial prisoners in Mumbai’s Taloja and Byculla jails, demanded the release of all political prisoners at a virtual press conference on Saturday. Their exhortation comes due to a lack of healthcare workers to treat the inmates during the pandemic.

Hany Babu, a 54 year old Professor of English Literature and Linguists at Delhi University and an undertrial prisoner in the Bhima Koregaon case, who has been in custody since July 2020 without trial, has tested positive for coronavirus on Thursday.
