In a shocking case, a 25-year-old Kuki woman married to a Meitei man went through brutal assault allegedly by the husband and the Meitei women’s group Meira Paibis, leaving her with grievous injuries.
The situation in Manipur continues to be tense as many women belonging to the Kuki-Zo community were injured by Central forces in Kangpokpi District, as alleged by various civil society organisations from the community.
Post-mortem examination reports of 10 Kuki-Zo youths, including a minor, who were recently killed in what is being described as a “gunfight” with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), revealed that not only were the right eyes of at least four youths missing, but they also sustained multiple fatal bullet injuries, most of which were fired from behind.
More than four hundred days since the start of ethnic violence between the dominant Meitei community and the minority Kuki and other tribal hill communities, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Union government and Manipur state government have utterly failed to end the violence and displacement and protect human rights in the state, said Amnesty International.
