Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said Union minister Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish, accused of running over farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri last year, was granted bail in a hurry because the BJP knew the government in Uttar Pradesh is set to change.

Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait has said the farmers will approach the Supreme Court soon over the bail granted to Ashish Mishra, the son of union minister Ajay Mishra, accused of murder in the Lakhimpur Kheri farmers' killings.

The Uttar Pradesh Police's Special Investigation Team (SIT) in a plea before a local court described the farmers' killings in Lakhimpur Kheri in October, in which Union minister Ajay Mishra's son Ashish Mishra’s vehicle had ran over protesting farmers, as "pre-planned" and said that it was done with an intention to kill.

Family members of the farmers who were killed in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur last month joined the Kisan Mahapanchayat at Eco Garden in Lucknow on Monday.
