Six patients including five COVID-19 positive patients have died on Friday at a private hospital in Punjab’s Amritsar, apparently on account of shortage of medical oxygen.

In order to avoid any oxygen-related emergency across Mumbai’s hospitals, the city’s civic body on Friday issued Standard Operating Procedure that all wards offices, hospitals and public health departments will have to strictly follow. The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai has issued orders for compiling a list of private hospitals, their oxygen suppliers and the types of cylinders available for refilling.

At a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal suggested that the Centre should take over all oxygen plants through Army, reports PTI.

Shahnawaz Shaikh, a Mumbai youth who set up his own war room to supply oxygen to COVID-19 patients at a time when several parts of the country are reporting a dire shortage of oxygen supply, has become a lifesaver for many.

Small COVID-19 hospitals in the state have started shifting their admitted patients and referring others to big hospitals for want of uninterrupted supply of liquid medical oxygen.

District Magistrate of Nasik, Maharashtra confirms 22 patients have died due to oxygen leakage in Dr Zakir Hussain hospital Wednesday. More than 170 patients were on oxygen in the hospital, according to local reports.
