Palestine has become the world’s most dangerous state for journalists amid Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza, with dozens of reporters killed specifically due to their work, say media freedom and rights watchdogs.
“If I die, I want a loud death,” Palestinian photojournalist Fatima Hassouna wrote on social media. “I don’t want to be just breaking news, or a number in a group, I want a death that the world will hear, an impact that will remain through time, and a timeless image that cannot be buried by time or place.”
Israeli occupation forces pounded Gaza, bombing a tent housing journalists near Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, killing at least two and wounding seven others.
Israel killed two Palestinian journalists in separate attacks in Gaza on Monday, bringing the total number of journalists killed in the Palestinian territory since October 2023 to 287.
