In a public interest litigation filed by the mothers of Rohit Vemula and Payal Tadvi assailing caste discrimination in higher educational institutions (HEIs), the Supreme Court on Friday directed the University Grants Commission to collate the total number of complaints of caste discrimination received under its 2012 regulations in universities and higher educational institutions in the country.
The Supreme Court on Thursday sought the University Grants Commission’s response in a PIL filed by the mothers of Rohith Vemula and Payal Tadvi, for guidelines for creating an enabling environment for students belonging to Dalit and Adivasi communities in higher education institutes.
