A public convention under the banner of ‘People’s Movement for Rohith Act’ to redress caste discrimination faced by Dalit students in university spaces was held in Bangalore on Sunday at St. Joseph’s College of Law, where families and friends of Radhika Vemula were present.
“As the culprits escape every step of culpability, the Justice for Rohith Vemula movement at the University of Hyderabad continues to resist by never forgetting,” say the students of the University of Hyderabad.
In a public interest litigation filed by the mothers of Rohit Vemula and Payal Tadvi assailing caste discrimination in higher educational institutions (HEIs), the Supreme Court on Friday directed the University Grants Commission to collate the total number of complaints of caste discrimination received under its 2012 regulations in universities and higher educational institutions in the country.
