Ambedkar Students' Association in the University of Hyderabad announced an online event on 17 January to commemorate the sixth death anniversary of Rohith Vemula, a Dalit research scholar who died by suicide in 2016 after facing caste discrimination and social boycott.

Thirumavalavan MP on Sunday demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi take moral responsibility for the loss of thousands of lives during the COVID-19 pandemic due to his "utterly inept handling of this public health crisis," and resign immediately.

In response to Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) leader Anbumani Ramadoss’s claims that educated Dalit youth have lost faith in VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan, thousands of users on social media showed their support of Thirumavalavan and posted their educational qualifications in an attempt to prove Anbumani wrong.

Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) supremo Thol Thirumavalavan said that the alliances headed by Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief Kamal Haasan and Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) founder TTV Dhinakaran would end up favouring the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) alliance in the state.

Thol Thirumavalavan MP ,Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) founder and the CPIM Tamil Nadu leaders met Tamil Nadu police chief J K Tripathy on Friday to demand a ban on the proposed ‘Vetrivel Yatra’ by the BJP’s state unit. They have said that the event might provoke communal unrest among religious groups and therefore, permission should not be granted.
