Brazil surpasses 150,000 coronavirus deaths

Brazil registered 559 additional coronavirus deaths over the last 24 hours and 26,749 new cases, its Health Ministry said on Saturday.

The South American country has now registered 5,082,637 confirmed coronavirus cases in total, and 150,198 deaths since the coronavirus pandemic began.

Latin America is the current epicentre of the pandemic, with the region accounting for than one in three of all deaths each day. This has been fuelled by a surge in Covid-19 fatalities in Brazil, Mexico and several other countries in Central and South America.

The world recorded more than one million new cases of the COVID-19 in just the last three days, the highest total ever in such short span, a reflection of increase spread of virus in Europe, United States, India and Brazil.

India has become the most-affected country by daily average deaths.
