Instagram has suspended the account of DOAM, (Documenting Oppression Against Muslims), a social media collective which documents violence against Muslims across globe, after it uploaded the visuals of attack on Al Aqsa Masjid.
The disabling of DOAM’s account is followed by the repeated allegations of silencing and censoring contents of Israeli violence on Palestinians on social media platforms. Many hashtags were missing and hidden by the social media giants Instagram and Facebook.
“Instagram has disabled @doammuslims, simply because we posting about the attack on Al Aqsa Mosque,” Zahid Akthar, founder of DOAM said.
The page had over 173000 followers on Instagram and it had posted more than 14200 incidents of anti-Muslim violence across globe since 2014.
DOAM, a collective established in 2014, is based in London, United Kingdom.
After mounting criticism regarding Instagram’s censorship of the coverage on Sheikh Jarrah evictions, the social media platform has admitted that user posts and accounts reporting on the Sheikh Jarrah evictions were taken down.
The head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, claimed a “technical bug” was responsible for the deletions, and apologised to users who were unable to “bring attention to incredibly important issues”.
However as of yet multiple accounts are yet to be reinstated including the DOAM.
Masjid Al Aqsa was attacked after the night prayer on the last Friday of Ramadan by the Israeli force with stun grenades. Hundreds of people including children were trapped inside the mosque.
