Izzat al-Risheq, a member of Hamas’s political bureau, said Israel is sacrificing the lives of its remaining captives in Palestine by resuming the genocidal war on Gaza.
“Netanyahu’s decision to return to war is a decision to sacrifice the prisoners of the occupation and a death sentence against them,” al-Risheq said in a statement shared by CNN.
“The enemy will not achieve through war and destruction what it has failed to achieve through negotiations,” he added.
Israel launched a brutal wave of attacks on Gaza in the early hours of Tuesday, killing over 310 Palestinians, in a unilateral end of its ceasefire agreement with Hamas.
At least 200 more have been reported wounded, with the numbers expected to climb.
Hamas said Israel carried out a “treacherous” attack on besieged and defenceless civilians in order to overturn the Gaza ceasefire deal.
Palestinian Islamic Jihad also accused Israel of “deliberately sabotaging” the ceasefire, which had been in place since January 19.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he ordered the strikes because of a lack of progress in talks to extend the ceasefire.
