
Eighteen people have died as a Saurya Airlines flight skid off the runway while taking off from the Tribhuvan International Airport at Kathmandu on Wednesday morning, said the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN).
A total of 19 people, including two crew members, were in the Pokhara-bound flight, which took off from Kathmandu at 11:11 am, the aviation authority said. All the passengers were airline staff travelling to Pokhara for aircraft maintenance.
The rescue operations are being led by the Nepal army.
Captain MR Shakya was rescued from the crash site and has been admitted to the KMC Hospital in Sinamangal for treatment.
