Pakistan plane carrying 98 people crashes in Karachi

This is a developing story that is being updated as the situation evolves.

A Pakistan International Airlines plane has crashed in Karachi on a flight from Lahore, the country’s aviation officials said.

The plane, which was reported to be carrying 90 passengers and 8 crew members, was flying from Lahore to Jinnah International Airport, one of Pakistan’s busiest airports.

Videos and pictures shared on social media show smoke rising from the crash site, a residential area.

“Saying anything right now would be premature. Our crew is trained to handle emergency landings. All my prayers are with the families. We will continue to provide information in a transparent manner.” Pakistan News Paper The Dawn quoted Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) spokesperson Abdul Sattar as saying.

A statement by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said Army Quick Reaction Force and Sindh Pakistan Rangers reached the site for relief and rescue efforts alongside civil administration.
