Palestine President declares end to agreements with Israel, US

President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday declared an end to the agreements and understandings signed with Israel and the United States and turned over responsibility over the occupied territories back to Israel.

Abbas’s declaration follows the creation of a new Israeli government which is officially contemplating annexation of some areas of the West Bank.

“The Palestine Liberation Organization [PLO] and the state of Palestine are absolved, as of today, of all the agreements and understandings with the American and Israeli governments and of all the commitments based on these understandings and agreements, including the security ones,” Abbas said in his speech.

Abbas in his declaration slammed American role in legitimizing the annexation of occupied land. The American administration last year recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and moved its embassy to the holy land.

“Publication of the “deal of the century”, which set the base for the Israeli annexation declaration, which is a blatant violation of the resolutions of the international legitimacy and international law”, Abbas pointed out.

During his address, Abbas also said he was still ready to negotiate with Israel and remains committed to ending the conflict on the basis of a two-state solution.
