Palestinian rights must be ‘on the table’ of negotiations: Hamas

The rights of the Palestinian people should be “on the table” during the ongoing diplomatic discussions related to Gaza, said Hamas.

The US is “moving away” from ensuring that the rights of the Palestinian people are met by continuing to support “the occupation, the war, and the crimes committed against the Palestinian people”, Ghazi Hamad, a member of Hamas’s political bureau, said.

Hamad was speaking to Al Jazeera.

Despite reports of Israel “violating” the truce, it is so far “going well”, the Hamas leader said, adding that the group provided evidence to mediators on violations concerning aid deliveries, details of prisoner releases, and on-the-ground military activity.

He said a lot of the much-needed humanitarian aid has not yet reached northern Gaza.

“There must be additional guarantees that the truce will be seen through,” Hamad said, before adding that the group is fully prepared to conclude a comprehensive deal if Israel has “serious intentions” of releasing all Palestinian prisoners.
