Greater Manchester Police on Monday arrested Manchester United young talent, Mason Greenwood, on suspicion of rape and assault following allegations on social media.
The earlier police statement refers they are “aware of images and videos circulating on social media. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances”.
Later, the arrest was confirmed by the police.
“We can confirm a man in his 20s has since been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault. He remains in custody for questioning,” reads the police statement.
The 20-year-old footballer’s crime against his “girlfriend” was exposed in a series of social media posts with the caption “to everyone who wants to know what Mason Greenwood actually does to me”.

The club had released a statement earlier saying they are aware of “images and allegations circulating on social media,” Eurosport Reported.
“We will not make any further comment until the facts have been established. Manchester United does not condone violence of any kind.”
After the arrest, the club suspended the player and said he would not return to training or matches until further notice.
