Spain’s Covid-19 daily death below 100, first time in two months

Spain reported the lowest daily death toll from the coronavirus for the first time in two months. The death toll was contained to 87 on Sunday, the health ministry said. Spain remains one of the worst-hit by the corona pandemic.

Total deaths from the virus climbed to 27,650, while the number of confirmed cases edged up to 231,350 from 230,698.

The number of daily positive cases in Spain also dropped to 421 from 539 the previous day. However, the figures released at the weekend have generally tended to be lower and usually rise by a small amount at the start of the week.

On Saturday, Spain’s prime minister Pedro Sánchez sought a final month-long extension of country’s coronavirus lockdown which initiated on 14 March.
