US election: A bigger ‘Squad’ is heading back to Congress

The four Democratic congresswomen of colour known as The Squad, on Wednesday, is declared victorious in their race to the house of representatives.

Congresswomen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan each were reelected, cementing their place in Washington for at least another two years.

The Squad, endorsed by Justice Democrats, the progressive group, has expanded with Cori Bush and Jamaal Bowman declared elected to congress.

Three other Democratic House candidates endorsed by Justice Democrats were on the ballot on Tuesday.

Jamaal Bowman in New York’s 16th congressional district and Cori Bush in Missouri’s 1st congressional district are also elected to the congress.

“Mike Brown was murdered 2,278 days ago. We took to the streets for more than 400 days in protest. Today, we take this fight for Black Lives from the streets of Ferguson to the halls of Congress. We will get justice,” Cori Bush tweeted after winning the race.
