A Ukrainian nurse who lost her legs in a landmine explosion has shared an emotional first dance with her husband after getting married in a hospital.
Viktor, the groom held his wife Oksana in his arms as they danced on the ward in the western city of Lviv. The moment was caught on camera by a volunteer at the hospital.
The video was also shared on Twitter by Ukraine‘s Parliament, which described it as the culmination of a “very special love story.”
The nurse, 23-year-old Oksana, was walking with her husband in her hometown of Lysychansk in the Luhansk region on 27 March when she stepped on a landmine.
She turned to warn her husband of the danger, seconds before a mine exploded underneath her. He was not injured, but Oksana lost her legs and four fingers on her left hand.
Oksana underwent four surgeries. After her wounds healed, doctors started preparing her limbs for prosthetics, Sky News reported.
In March, the Ukrainian couple who had been together for six years decided to formalise their relationship by getting married.
