Unnao Rape survivor, set ablaze by 5 men, critical

The rape survivor from Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao, who was airlifted to Delhi and admitted to the Safdarjung Hospital for medical treatment, is critical and has been put on ventilator.

“The condition of the patient is extremely critical and she is on ventilator. Even her vitals are very low,” said Dr Shalab Kumar, Head of Burn and Plastic Surgery at the hospital.

She suffered 90 per cent burns after five men, including the rape accused, set her on fire yesterday.

The woman was on her way to the railway station to catch a train to Rae Bareli for a court hearing in the rape case. She was stopped by the accused. They first hit her with a stick and then attacked her with a knife. After that they poured petrol and set her on fire, the woman told police.

All the five men were arrested after the incident.

The woman was raped few months ago and had filed a complaint in March this year. The accused was arrested and later had been granted bail.
