“Brahmins leave the campus”: Graffiti sprayed on JNU walls

Several walls of a building at Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi were defaced with anti-Brahmin slogans on Thursday, showed the photographs shared on social media.

The slogans say “Brahmo-Baniyas, we are coming for you” and “we will avenge you.”

The university’s School of International Studies, where the graffiti were painted, said it will conduct an inquiry into the incident.

Slogans on doors of faculty members’ rooms ask them to go back to “shakha”, a reference to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

Meanwhile, ABVP, a Hindu right wing student group has filed a complaint and submitted a memorandum against the slogans with the administration.

The university said in a statement that the vice chancellor has taken serious note of the incident, reported ANI.

“The dean, School of International Studies, and grievances committee have been asked to inquire and submit a report to VC at the earliest,” read university’s statement.

The Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers’ Forum said that the forum believes the incident to be akin to “subtle violence to intimidate, threaten, demoralise and degrade the academic space.” It also demanded setting up an independent committee to look into the incident.
