BJP minister Jitendra Singh’s wealth doubled in 10 years: Data

Union minister Dr Jitendra Singh, who is fighting his third Lok Sabha elections on a BJP ticket from Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur, recorded a growth of over 100 percent in his wealth over the past 10 years, according to his affidavit.

During the upcoming elections, Singh will be contesting the Lok Sabha elections from the Udhampur-Kathua constituency in Jammu and Kashmir. Singh has been a minister of state under the Prime Minister’s Office, since 2014.

However, according to Singh’s recent poll affidavit, his current valuation of moveable and immovable assets adds up to around 7.04 crores, as opposed to 5.87 crores in 2019. In his latest affidavit, the minister put the value of his movable assets at ₹ 3.33 crore and immovable assets at ₹ 3.71 crore; and his wife’s movable assets at ₹ Rs 88.88 lakh and immovable assets at ₹ 66 lakhs in 2024.

He won from the same constituency in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections on a BJP ticket. The 67-year-old Singh, a retired medicine professor, filed his nomination papers.

The moveable and immovable assets of Mr Singh’s wife Manju – a housewife whose source of income is interest from bank deposits — also increased from over â‚¹ 65.42 lakh in 2014 to over â‚¹ 1.54 crore, a comparison of his affidavits of 2014 and 2024 showed.

In his declaration of assets as a Lok Sabha member from his second term, there is also mention of the purchase of property and non-agricultural land, valued at 73 lakhs, in 2018, in the same of his spouse.

Singh defeated both Ghulam Nabi Azad and Vikramaditya Singh, both who were Congress candidates for the Udhampur seat (a former Congress stronghold constituency), in 2014 and 2019 respectively, by a large margin of votes.

In the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Singh will be up against Chaudhary Lal Singh, the Congress nominee for the same constituency, who’d been previously mired in the Kathua rape case controversy, for allegedly defending those accused of the crime.
