Ashish Mishra given hurried bail, BJP sensed govt change in UP: Akhilesh

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said Union minister Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish, accused of running over farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri last year, was granted bail in a hurry because the BJP knew the government in Uttar Pradesh is set to change.

“BJP gave a hurried bail to the accused Ashish Mishra because they knew the government is going to change in UP… If farm laws were taken back, this means Yogi Adityanath will also have to go back,” news agency ANI quoted Yadav as saying.

Yadav was addressing a poll campaign in UP’s Lakhimpur Kheri.

Meanwhile, two advocates have filed a plea in the Supreme Court seeking to cancel the bail granted to Union Minister Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra, who is an accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri farmers’ killings.

The case against him pertains to the killing of four farmers and a journalist during a protest against the three farm laws that have now been repealed.

Farmer bodies and Opposition parties have been alleging that a vehicle belonging to Ashish Mishra had run over the protestors. He had been arrested on October 9.

He walked out of jail on Tuesday after the Allahabad High Court granted him bail on February 10.
