Convicted former MLA Mukhtar Ansari, who alleged slow poisoning in UP jail, hospitalised

Convicted politician from Uttar Pradesh and former Member of the Legislative Assembly Mukhtar Ansari was admitted to Uttar Pradesh’s Banda Medical College last night in a serious condition after he complained of chest pain, sources related to the family informed Maktoob.

Last week, during a virtual court appearance, Mukhtar Ansari alleged that he was being administered slow poison while in prison. Ansari has repeatedly complained to the court during hearings that he is not receiving adequate medical facilities in jail.

Ansari is under observation in the ICU ward of the hospital. Heavy police forces have been deployed around the medical college to ensure security, Times Now reported.

In December last year, Ansari was sentenced to five and a half years rigorous imprisonment in a 26-year-old case. The five-term BSP MLA has been behind bars since 2005 and currently remains lodged in the Banda prison.
