CUET against cardinal principle of social justice: John Brittas MP

John Brittas, CPI(M) MP from Kerala questioned the merit of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET, saying that the CUET is against the cardinal principle of social justice.

He said that education is on the concurrent list, but the Union takes unilateral decisions about education with no discussion with states.

He pointed out that the UGC decided that CUET will be held and Standard 12 marks will not be taken into account. But students from the weakest section are not considered because they cannot afford coaching and there is an inherent advantage for well-to-do students.

The CUET is against the cardinal principle of social justice, Brittas said.

He also said that the distinct character of each university was not taken into account.

The Common University Entrance Test, erstwhile Central Universities Common Entrance Test is an all-India test being organized for admission to various Integrated/Under-Graduate, Post Graduate, and Research Programmes in 45 Central Universities, State Universities, Deemed to be the University of India.

Meanwhile, the registration process for Common Universities Entrance Test, CUET, 2022 will begin from tomorrow, April 6, 2022. Interested candidates can register themselves on the official websites, i.e., and, once the link is activated.

As per the information bulletin, the CUET is expected to be held in the first and second week of July 2022.
