MLA Amanatullah Khan’s life is in danger, says wife hours after arrest over protesting demolitions

Okhla MLA and AAP leader Amanatullah Khan’s life is in danger, his wife Shafia tweeted from his official Twitter account on Friday, hours after he was arrested by Delhi Police for protesting against a demolition drive in southeast Delhi.

“Okhla MLA, my husband Amanatullah Khan was arrested by the Delhi police. I have no clue about his whereabouts for the last 4-5 hours. I am afraid some untoward incident can take place, his life is in danger,” Shafia tweeted.

Shafia who said her husband Khan was arrested for raising the voice of people, requested shopkeepers in Okhla to keep their shops shut between 9 am to 5 pm, to show solidarity with the MLA.

BJP controlled civic authorities Thursday carried out anti-encroachment drives in various parts of Delhi. The demolition drives sparked massive protests in the Madanpur Khadar area of Delhi, where locals claimed that legal structures were bulldozed.

Amanatullah Khan, who was part of the protest at Madanpur Khadar, was detained by Delhi police on Thursday morning and arrest was registered on Thursday night.

“I am ready to go to jail if it saves the houses of poor people. There is no encroachment here. I will support them (civic body) in demolition if there is any encroachment,” he told news agency ANI before his detention.
