Shabnam Nafisa Kalim saw the funeral procession of dozens of Muslims killed during the 2020 Delhi pogrom through the window of her house in Mustafabad. When the COVID-19 lockdown after less than a month of violence broke the community, Shabnam swung into action.
What began as a spontaneous act of voluntary relief work transformed Shabnam. At 25, she now runs a library in Mustafabad, offering a haven for countless underprivileged students.
Shabnam is a leader, guiding her community through the aftermath of the traumatic anti-Muslim violence, uplifting spirits and fostering resilience.
