The freelance journalist and Caravan contributor Punia was presented before a magistrate at the Tihar Court Complex this morning, after being charged under multiple sections of the IPC, including those relating to the use criminal force on a public servant.

Caravan magazine’s Political Editor Hartosh Singh Bal on Saturday said that they would take “whatever legal recourse” necessary.

Meanwhile, a group of Journalists in Delhi staged a demonstration in front of the new police headquarters in Patel Chowk area on Sunday to protest the arrest of Mandeep Punia.

Congress former chief Rahul Gandhi was among those to speak out; Gandhi tweeted a video that apparently showed Punia being taken away by a large group of policemen.
