Muslim family attacked by mob in Mumbai for bringing goats meant for sacrifice on Eid, 11 booked

An FIR was filed against 11 people on charges of rioting and molestation after they  protested and manhandled a Muslim couple living in a private housing colony on Mira Road for bringing home goats to be sacrificed for Eid ul Adha.

The FIR was filed on the complaint of Yasmin Khan, who lives with her husband and a four-year-old son in Estela Building, Vinay Nagar,  on Mira Road.

“If bringing the goats inside the housing colony was against the law, then they should have filed a police complaint against us. We were assaulted, molested and mentally harassed by the mob that gathered to protest against us,” the couple, Mohsin Khan and Yasmin Khan, said to ANI.

“They checked our car and questioned my husband on bringing goats and and keeping them inside the flat. They threatened that they would (forcefully) take the goats from our flat. To this my husband reacted and they started manhandling us… During the scuffle they also tore my clothes, forcing me to call police,” Khan said in her statement to police.

“They did not allow us to enter the society and called us terrorists… said we should not be allowed to stay in the society,” added in the FIR.

The man who was part of the ‘protest’ against Muslim family said: “Our society had passed a rule that no livestock would be allowed inside the society, but they violated it and brought two goats inside. We are opposing it and will not allow it.”

No arrest has been made yet in the case, police said.
