Congress MLA Mamman Khan who was arrested in the Nuh violence case on Friday, has been sent to two-day police remand.
The Congress MLA was produced in a Nuh court on Friday. The court said that the MLA had failed to appear before the Nuh police twice in the last fortnight despite a notice being sent to him, asking to join the investigation.
The Ferozepur Jhirka legislator, who was named as an accused in an FIR lodged after the clashes, was arrested on early Friday.
Earlier, Section 144 was imposed in Nuh and police presence had been stepped up.
The Haryana government also ordered the suspension of mobile Internet and bulk SMS services in the district for two days to prevent “the spread of misinformation and rumours”.
The MLA had approached the Punjab and Haryana high court on Tuesday, seeking protection from arrest. The hearing had been set for October 19.
Meanwhile Khan has said that he is being falsely implicated in the case, as he was not even in Nuh on the day the violence broke out.
Six people including a mosque imam were killed and dozens injured during the violence in Nuh on July 31, when the Hindu militant groups Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal took out a ‘Shobha Yatra’ in Muslim-majority areas.
