The Opposition alliance for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections will be named INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance), the 26-member grouping of Opposition parties has decided.

The name was arrived at after much deliberation on Day 2 of the mega meeting in Bengaluru. It was Rahul Gandhi who came up with the name.

The Day One of the meeting yesterday was informal, with discussions followed by a dinner. Today’s closed-door meeting started around 11, and continued till 4 pm.

The Opposition meet is being attended by Sonia Gandhi, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Chief Ministers MK Stalin, Nitish Kumar, Arvind Kejriwal, Hemant Soren, Mamata Banerjee, and RJD Chief Lalu Prasad and among others.

“We are 26 parties here. Together, we are in government in 11 states today. The BJP did not get 303 seats by itself. It used the votes of its allies and came to power and then discarded them. Today, the BJP president and their leaders are running from state to state to patch up with their old allies,” said Kharge.
