Sexual harassment: Wrestlers file police complaint against WFI chief, BJP MP Brij Bhushan

Seven prominent woman wrestlers have filed a police complaint against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, accusing him of sexual harassment.

“Yes, absolutely (the complaint has been filed) – at Connaught Place Police Station,” said Olympic medallist Bajrang Punia who was a key figure of sit-down protest against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, ANi news agency reported.

“We have taken this step as there has been no action taken since we lodged our protest with the sports ministry,” a wrestler said to Indian Express.

Following the historic protests by India’s renowned women wrestlers against BJP MP, a committee was set up on January 23 to probe the allegations levelled against Brij Bhushan by the wrestlers.

Boxing legend MC Mary Kom is the head of the committee. The committee was given a one-month deadline but its findings have not been made public yet even though the report has been submitted.

Bajrang, Vinesh Phogat and several prominent wrestlers have expressed their unhappiness that the findings of the government-appointed Oversight Committee have not been made public yet.

Reports suggest that the wrestlers are also set to resume their sit-down protest against him at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Sunday.
