Telangana Assembly elections: 20.64 voter turnout recorded till 11 am

Polling in all 119 Assembly constituencies of Telangana began at 7 am on Thursday. Till 11 am, the state recorded a voter turnout of 20.64%.

Telangana sees a triangular contest between the BJP, Congress and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

BRS has fielded candidates in all 119 seats. As per the seat sharing agreement, BJP and actor Pawan Kalyan-headed Jana Sena are contesting in 111 and 8 seats respectively, while Congress has given one seat to its ally CPI, and fighting from 118 others. AIMIM has put up candidates in nine segments in Hyderabad.

The Assembly election will decide the fate of 2,290 candidates from 109 national and regional parties. The state has 3.26 crore voters who are eligible to exercise their franchise across 35,655 polling stations.

A clash broke out between the Congress and the BRS workers during polling at a booth in Rangareddy district after which the police were swung into action, news agency PTI reported.
