Tripura: Girls in Hijab stopped outside school, Class 10 Muslim boy assaulted for protesting

A class 10 Muslim student was beaten up Vishwa Hindu Parishad members on Friday for objecting to them preventing Muslim girls from entering a school wearing Hijab in Tripura.

The student was dragged out and beaten in front of the school, while no teacher, including the headmaster of Koroimura Higher Secondary School, came to his rescue, NDTV reported.

The student was rushed to a nearby healthcare centre.

Following the incident, the locals blocked roads in protest. The Bishalgarh subdivision of Sepahijala district, was tense following the incident.

A week ago, as per the school authorities, a group of ex-students, who identified with VHP, visited the school. They expressed concerns about Muslim girl students wearing hijab on the premises and threatened the headmaster to implement a ban, citing non-compliance with the prescribed government uniform. Following the Hindutva intervention, the headmaster verbally informed the students not to wear Hijab in the school.
