Watch Guyana representative explain why US resolution on Gaza was problematic

On Friday, Guyana abstained on a US-led resolution that called for “the imperative of an immediate and sustained ceasefire” at the United Nations Security Council. The Palestinian mission to the UN welcomed the rejection of the US resolution that was vetoed by Russia and China and voted against by Algeria at the UN Security Council.

The mission’s deputy head, Majed Bamya, says the draft had its strengths, but “also had several extremely problematic aspects that had to be rejected”.

Guyana’s representative condemned the text of the resolution for its lack of “attribution or demands to the Israeli authorities for what is taking place in Gaza.”
