Tensions flared in Telangana’s Jinnaram village of Sangareddy district after Hindutva groups attacked a madrasa, assaulted students, and tried to set fire to a nearby dargah, blaming madrasa students for vandalising two Shiva idols at a local temple.
"The remarks in the letter, suggesting that funding to madrasas should stop and the Madrasa Board be dissolved, are deeply concerning. These are dangerous and deliberate attacks on the rights of minorities in this country," said MP E.T. Muhammed Basheer.
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has recommended that States and Union Territories across India discontinue their funding to Madrasa Boards.
