A large number of people from various tribal communities of Jharkhand, Odisha, Assam, Bihar, and West Bengal staged a demonstration on Thursday demanding recognition of their religion as ‘Sarna’ by the Union Government and ensuring their enumeration in the upcoming census under this category.

Tribal organisations said it will bring out 200 Sarna Dharma Sagars (Raths) in the five eastern states, Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha and Assam between December 20 and 31 to demand separate religion code for Sarna followers.
