Dozens of children among 34 killed in mass shooting at Thailand daycare centre

More than 30 people have been killed in a mass shooting at a children’s daycare centre in a northeastern province of Thailand. According to reports, casualties include dozens of children.

Police, in a statement, said that the gunman was an ex-police officer and a manhunt was underway.

A spokesperson for a regional public affairs office said 26 deaths have been confirmed so far – 23 children, two teachers and one police officer were among the deceased, Al Jazeera reported.

About 30 children were at the centre when the gunman arrived, fewer than usual, as heavy rain had kept many people away, district official Jidapa Boonsom, who was working in a nearby office at the time, told Reuters.
