ED arrests Campus Front national leader, org calls arrest ‘arbitrary’

Rauf Shareef was arrested from Trivandrum International Airport in Kerala on Saturday.

Campus Front of India, students wing of Popular Front of India said its national general secretary Rauf Shareef was arrested by Enforcement Directorate (ED) under sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and called the arrest as “ED’s arbitrary detention” and “outrageous.”

Rauf Shareef was arrested from Trivandrum International Airport in Kerala on Saturday.

According to ED sources, Rauf Shareef was learnt to be under the scanner for allegedly funding anti-CAA protests in Delhi. The ED had also issued a lookout notice for him.

Campus Front of India has called for nation wide protest against its national leader’s arrest.

“ED executes BJP’s order to intimidate students’ leaders and movements prelude to CAA-NRC implementation in January 2021,” it alleged.

The students body demanded Rauf Shareef’s immediate release and urged to the government to stop targeting activists and organisations who led historic CAA NRC protest.

“We are not going to refrain from the cause. It’s the hallucinations of BJP that the students draw back from fighting vendetta,” an official note by Campus Front of India reads.
