Trpura: Govt targeting opposition parties, says Manik Sarkar

A group of CPI(M) legislators in Tripura led by former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Monday met Governor Ramesh Bais and raised the issue of constant attacks on leaders and workers of the opposition parties in the state.

“Tripura has been handed over to miscreants,” after his meeting with the Governor, Manik Sarkar told reporters.

The senior left leader also termed the regime of the current government as ‘Jungle Raj’.

“Opposition parties are not being allowed to function independently. Even the offices of various opposition parties have been closed due to the terror of the ruling party,” Sarkar said.

He also accused saffron party of attacking Congress party state president.

Sarkar said: “State president of the Congress party was attacked yesterday. The government is functioning with a fascist attitude.”

According to Sarkar, around 17 to 18 opposition activists were killed since the BJP came to power in state.

“Police have failed to take any action,” former CM said.
