Shots fired at Asaduddin Owaisi’s vehicle while returning from UP

AIMIM supremo and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi’s vehicle was today fired at by unknown assailants when he was returning from Uttar Pradesh.

The incident occurred when Owaisi was on his way to Delhi from Kithaur, Meerut.

Speaking to ANI news agency, Owaisi said that three to four rounds of bullets were fired targeting his vehicle, leading to the puncture of the tyres. The Lok Sabha MP from Hyderabad had to then continue his journey in another vehicle.

“I was leaving for Delhi after a poll event in Kithaur, Meerut. 3-4 rounds of bullets were fired upon my vehicle by 2 people near Chhajarsi toll plaza, they were a total of 3-4 people. Tyres of my vehicle punctured. I left on another vehicle,” he said.

Hapur Superintendent of Police Deepak Bhuker said one person has been apprehended, according to ANI.

Bhuker said the suspect was being questioned and the police had recovered a weapon from him. “His accomplice managed to flee and search operation is under way,” Bhuker was quoted as saying.

“We are all safe,” Owaisi wrote on Twitter.

Owaisi asked the Election Commission to order an independent inquiry and said it was the responsibility of the Uttar Pradesh and Central government to conduct an investigation. “I will also meet the Lok Sabha Speaker [Om Birla],” ANI quoted Owaisi as saying
