As many as 60 people are feared to have been killed in a Russian airstrike that struck a village school in the Luhansk region of eastern Ukraine. The school was sheltering around 90 people, according to the regional governor.
Serhiy Gaidai, the regional governor of Luhansk, said Sunday that 30 people were rescued after the Russian bomb hit the school in the village of Bilohorivka.
The deadly airstrike came as Russian forces continued concentrating their assault on eastern Ukraine after failing to seize control of major cities, including the capital Kyiv.
Thousands of civilians, including many children, have been killed or wounded since Russia launched its invasion in late February and millions more have been displaced.

“Through its invasion of and actions in Ukraine since 2014, Russia has violated the international rules-based order, particularly the UN Charter, conceived after the second world war to spare successive generations from the scourge of war.
“President Putin and his regime now chose to invade Ukraine in an unprovoked war of aggression against a sovereign country. His actions bring shame on Russia and the historic sacrifices of its people.”
