BJP MLA booked for revealing victim’s identity in Jubilee Hills gangrape

A case has been registered against a BJP MLA from Telangana for revealing the identity of the victim in the Jubilee Hills gangrape case.

After a complaint was filed against the BJP legislator, the Hyderabad city police booked BJP MLA M Raghunandan Rao under 228A of the the Indian Penal Code on Monday.

Rao was booked following his press conference, during which he shared a video clip and screen grab images of the victim, virtually identifying her.

On May 28, the young girl visited a pub for a day-party and was brutally raped by five people, three of them juveniles.

She was offered a ride home and was sexually assaulted in the vehicle.

The Section 228A specifies punishments for identifying any person against whom an offence under Section 376, Section 376A, Section 376B, Section 376C or Section 376D is alleged or found to have been committed. The punishment under Section 228A, if found guilty, is imprisonment of up to two years and a possible fine.

The city police have also  booked cases against two others, who shared the video clip on YouTube.
