Digvijaya Singh confirms Cong president poll bid

Veteran Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh on Thursday confirmed his entry to the race for the Congress chief post.

Veteran Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh on Thursday confirmed his entry to the race for the Congress chief post.

It comes days after Rajasthan witnessed a high-voltage drama over the candidature of chief minister Ashok Gehlot.

Speaking to reporters at the AICC headquarters in Delhi, Singh said he was there to collect the nomination papers.

Singh will likely file the nomination on Friday.

“Today I have come here to collect the nomination form and will possibly file it tomorrow,” Singh said.

Singh claimed that the decision to contest was his solely and he didn’t speak to the Gandhi family on this subject.

Meanwhile, Shashi Tharoor, the opposite candidate tweeted: “Received a visit from @digvijaya_28 this afternoon. I welcome his candidacy for the Presidency of our Party. We both agreed that ours is not a battle between rivals but a friendly contest among colleagues. All we both want is that whoever prevails, @incIndia will win!”
