The Congress party on Friday claimed that all its bank accounts had been frozen, just weeks ahead of the General Elections.
“The banks are not honouring the cheques we are issuing,” said Congress Treasurer Ajay Maken.
“On investigating further, we got to know that the Youth Congress bank accounts have been frozen. The accounts of the Congress party have also been seized,” he said.
Maken went on to say: “This is equivalent to freezing the democracy. Democracy has completely ended in India. All the accounts of the country’s main opposition party have been frozen, our country’s democracy has been frozen.”
He also urged the judiciary to intervene and “save democracy.”
“Right now we don’t have any money to spend, to pay electricity bills, to pay salaries to our employees. Everything will be impacted, not only Nyay Yatra but all political activities will be impacted,” he added.
Maken also announced that the Congress will “take to the streets” and organise a widespread agitation over this matter.
